The Man in Cabin Number Five, Book One

I met David on a blind date in mid-May, at a dance place I’d been to before. Most blind dates I’d been on ended in disaster, so I drove my own car in case I needed to make a quick dash. The minute I saw him, though, I knew he was the man I was going to marry. I’m not sure what it was that made me think that, for he was not tall, dark and handsome like what most girls dream of, but of average height and looks. My heart didn’t pitter patter, but I felt something different.
He had a distinguished look about him and even though he was casually dressed in tan slacks and a dark shirt, he looked sophisticated. He laughed with his friends and drank beer with a confidence that came with his years. He was sure of himself, and must have been equally interested in me, for only a few minutes after meeting me, he asked if I wanted to dance.
“I didn’t think you were twenty-one,” he said. He narrowed his eyes. “And you’re different.”
